Young children with teacher

Under 5s

Our aim is to ensure that Reading’s young children have the best start in life with easy access to maternity, health, education and support services.

Early Years Service

Why do we need an Early Years Service?

Early Years is a statutory service under Childcare Act 2016.

Our role is to support and advise settings working with children from birth to 5 years of age in the provision of quality childcare.

Early Years Foundation Stage

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) sets the standards that all early years providers (0–5yrs) must meet to ensure that children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe. Ofsted registered childminders, pre-schools, nurseries and reception classes must follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
