Anti-Racist strategy
Data shows that in Reading schools and nationally black pupils underachieve compared to their white counterparts
Black pupils’ attainment at the end of KS2 is below white pupils’ attainment at the expected standard in reading, maths and RWM and significantly below at the greater depth standard in all measures. Black pupils’ attainment at the end of KS4 is below white pupils’ attainment in all measures except progress 8. It is significantly below at level 5+.
This active anti-racist transformation programme aims to reduce these gaps and build on the work of Brighter Futures for Children’s Prevention and Early Intervention Strategy using therapeutic approaches to support survivors of racism. It is widely recognised that schools can change pupils’ lives which is why all Reading schools must have an inclusive and supportive approach. The school environment, curriculum, education and pastoral care are crucial to challenge the ‘normalisation’ of many forms of racism.
