Logging into the Parents' Portal using My Reading Account
From Monday 14 July 2025, the way you log in to the Brighter Futures for Children parents’ portal will change. The parents’ portal is the platform used for school admissions, early years funding and children’s centres.
To make things simpler and more secure, Reading Borough Council is introducing single sign-on (SSO) using My Reading Account. This is the same account you may already use for other Reading Borough Council services.
In summary
- Your current Parents' Portal login details will not work after 14 July
- From then on, you will need to log in using My Reading Account
- If you don’t have a My Reading Account, you can create one
- This is a one-time setup – once complete, you can follow the regular log in process
- Your existing applications and records will not be affected
What do I need to do now?
- Create a My Reading Account If you don't have one already, we recommend creating a My Reading Account. Setting it up now will make it quicker and easier to log in when you need it most.
- Read the step-by-step guide Familiarise yourself with the instructions below ahead of time. From July 14 2025 you will need to follow these instructions to log in.

Step-by-step log in instructions – from 14 July only
- Go to the Parents’ Portal and click ‘sign in’

- On the Parents’ Portal sign in page, click the ‘sign in with My Reading Account’ button and enter your credentials.

- You will be asked to allow the Parents’ Portal to access to your account, click allow.

- You will be asked to review your account, you will need to add your title – you can add more details if you wish, but these are not mandatory.

- Click confirm details and you will be taken to the Parents’ Portal homepage, signed in.
Allowing access and reviewing your account are one-time actions. When you next log in, the system will take you straight back to the Parents’ Portal.
- On the Parents’ Portal sign click ‘sign in’

- On the Parents’ Portal sign in page, click the ‘sign in with My Reading Account’ button

- Scroll down and click ‘register now’

- Follow the steps and click ‘sign up’ to finish
- Enter the verification code sent to your email and click next – you will be signed in and taken to the My Reading Account homepage

- Click the ‘Brighter Futures for Children Parents’ Portal’ link

- You will be asked to allow access – click allow

- You will be asked to review your account, you will need to add your title – you can add more details if you wish, but these are not mandatory

- You will be signed in and taken to the Parents’ Portal homepage
You’re all done! This is a one-time process. Now you’ve done it, you can log in as normal next time.

The Parents’ Portal is asking to connect with your My Reading Account. It needs access to your My Reading Account name and email address to create this connection. Without this information, it’s not possible to log in. Please ensure that you click ‘allow’ during this step.
Troubleshooting My Reading Account
Please make sure you are not trying to use your Parents’ Portal login. If you already have a My Reading Account but can’t log in, try resetting your password.
If you haven’t received a password reset email, it might be because your account doesn’t exist. Please create a new My Reading Account.
If you have already tried resetting your password and it hasn’t worked, please contact us to report an account issue. We will investigate the issue and let you know once it’s resolved.
When you click ‘deny’ you will be shown an error message and an option to ‘go back’. Click the ‘go back’ button and choose ‘allow’ to complete the log in process.
