Brighter Futures for Children (BFfC) has made sure the 1,882 pupils starting secondary school in Reading have a place for September.

Just over 97% of Reading students who applied have been offered a place in one of their preferred secondary schools this year.

The percentage who received their first or second preference is 91% compared with 86% last year. Of these, 95% were offered their first, second or third choice, with over 77% of pupils (1,456) offered their first preference.

The percentage of students not allocated any of their preferences, but still offered a place in a Reading school, was 2.8% (53 pupils).

Brian Grady, Director of Education at Brighter Futures for Children, said: “It is fantastic that so many Reading children have been offered a place at one of their preferred secondary schools yet again this year.

“Thank you to our Admissions team, who work hard to make sure that all pupils starting secondary school in September are allocated a place.

“Best of luck to all pupils at their new school in September and we hope you enjoy and make the most of your time in secondary education.”

Cllr Ruth McEwan, Lead Councillor for Education and Public Health at Reading Borough Council, said: “I am delighted to see so many Reading young people being offered their secondary school of choice this September and to see the percentage go up on last year.

“A huge thank you goes to our secondary schools for continuing to help us to accommodate all students. We wish every pupil the best in their new school.”
