Schools and SEND support
The majority of pupils with special educational needs are supported by their school, without the need for an education, health and care plan (EHCP). In a small number of cases, however, where the needs might be more severe, complex and persistent, an EHCP may be required to provide further support. If you have concerns, in the first instance please talk to the SEND Co-ordinator (SENDCo) at your/your child’s school or educational setting for further information.
A child or young person with special education needs or disability (SEND) can usually be supported within the mainstream education system. This may include council-funded additionally resourced provisions (ARPs), which you can find out more about below.
Additionally Resourced Provisions (ARPs)
In Reading, a number of schools offer Additionally Resourced Provisions (ARPs).
What is an ARP?
These are specialist resources within mainstream schools where children receive enhanced, targeted provision so their long term special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) can be supported within a mainstream setting.
ARPs are funded directly by the council and delivered by the schools themselves. In most cases, children accessing an ARP will have an education, health and care plan (EHCP).
ARPs are supported by services including Reading Inclusion Support in Education (RISE) and the School Effectiveness team.

ARP profiles
To help families and professionals understand the type of needs each provision specialises in and the support it offers, each school has a record on the Reading SEND Local Offer website outlining the SEND support they offer, including ARPs. The table below lists specialist SEND schools as well as mainstream schools that offer ARPs in Reading. Each listing links to the school’s SEND provision record.
Reading schools offering SEND support, including funded ARP places, are listed below:
