It has never been a better time to join children’s social care services in Reading; we have recently transitioned into a new, independent, not-for-profit-company. We are now Brighter Futures for Children with our own Board of directors focused on delivering the best possible opportunities for the children of Reading.

We have secured DfE transformation money to underpin our improvement work. We aim to ensure that that our professionals have all the tools they need to do an exceptional job; our team managers are all permanent members of staff and we are well on the way to achieving manageable caseloads and our Consultant Practitioners are on hand to coach, mentor and support our staff through complex and high risk case work.

We work with families that require support from the point of a referral through a single assessment to, where necessary, longer term teams for ongoing advice, support, guidance and interventions to create the necessary changes to keep children safe.

We have social worker vacancies in both our Access and Assessment Team  and newly structured Family Intervention Team. Access and Assessment consists of four teams that deal with all s17 and s47 assessments. The four teams each consist of a Team Manager, an Assistant Team Manager and six social workers. The teams work a four weekly duty rotation to ensure that caseloads are kept at a manageable level and social workers have the capacity and support to improve outcomes for our children and young people of Reading.

The Family Intervention Team picks up cases from our Access and Assessment Teams. This is our longer term work with Child in Need, Child Protection and cases within the Public Law outline. Again there are four teams in this service which consist of a Team Manager, Assistant Team Manager, Consultant Practitioner and six Social Workers. We have recently redesigned the service to ensure management oversight and support for staff is robust.

We have developed an excellent training and developmental pathway which will support your career progression which includes trauma informed practice and restorative approaches to work with our most vulnerable children and young people.
