Social Worker - Family Intervention Team

We currently have vacancies for qualified social workers in our family intervention team.

The family Interventions team receives the cases from access and assessment team and holds cases of children on child in need, child protection and in public law Outline process and children in care proceedings.

We aim to ensure that our professionals have all the tools they need to do an exceptional job. We have recently introduced Consultant Practitioners into our establishment who are on hand to coach, mentor and support our staff through complex and high risk case work.

We have also secured excellent training for all our staff through Research in Practice, and established a sound partnership with the NSPCC. We value our staff and want to support them in their progression with us.

Social Worker - A&A and CSPOA

We currently have vacancies for qualified social workers in our Assess and Assessment, and our Child Single Point of Assess.

Assess and Assessment consists of four teams that deal with all s17 and s47 assessments. The Family Intervention Service picks up cases from our Access and Assessment Teams, long term work is carried out by the Family intervention Team. The Family Intervention Team also carry out work with child in need, child protection and looked after children cases.

As a member of the senior leadership team, you will contribute to the development of the strategic vision for Children Services involving key stakeholders and partners to develop responsive and impact and children services.

You will have;

A recognized social work qualification, and extensive post qualifying experience of managing children0 services at a senior level.

A relevant academic or professional qualification with significant experience in senior management roles within children0 services

Extensive experience of leading safeguarding and children 0 social care with strong evidence of achieving the best outcomes for children can be achieved and sustained.

Professional social work registration with Social Work England Professional Standards.

We are an independent, not-for-profit-company, wholly owned by Reading Borough Council. Our responsibility is to deliver quality children's services, early help, education and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) services in the borough.


Role Responsibilities:

To provide consultation, assessment, advice and intervention regarding the education, behaviour and well-being of children and young people aged 0-25, working in partnership with children, parents and teachers.

To assist schools in developing effective approaches to meeting special educational needs.

To contribute to the development and implementation of Brighter Futures for Children policy and practice in relation to children0 educational development and well-being, with particular regard to SEND.

To write psychological advice, within specified timescales, for statutory assessments.

To contribute to the development and delivery of mental health projects.

Essential Qualifications:

Honours degree in Psychology and a Masters or Doctorate qualification in Educational Psychology.

Participation Officer

Closing Date: 30th January 2020

Salary Details: £35,934 - £41,675 depending on experience

The Participation Officer has an important role to play in strengthening the ways that the views of children, young people and families inform service design and delivery. The role will oversee and coordinate participation work across the company. The officer will be responsible for the development of a refreshed Participation Strategy and lead on its implementation to ensure that all children, especially vulnerable children and their families can take an active role in informing and shaping service delivery.

You will need:?

  • To lead the design, development and delivery of the Participation Strategy.? Coordinate all activity taking place under the Strategy, and update as appropriate, taking learning from best practice from elsewhere.
  • Take a lead role in promoting the Mind of My Own application.
  • To manage an apprentice care leaver post to work alongside the post holder to deliver activities and supervise meetings
  • To empower children and young people in care, subject to child protection and child in need plans to make their views known to inform service delivery.?
  • To liaise with both carers and foster carers individually and at group meetings to seek feedback and information, and to inform and promote participation in the children in care council and activities.
  • To support young people to deliver the Care2Listen training programme to all members of BFfC staff, and to promote take up of the offer

The post will require you to provide direct interventions to children with additional needs and to promote and support inclusive practice for these children.

You will need to have experience of working directly with pre-school children and families and have, or be willing to develop, a good understanding of legislation affecting children with additional needs and knowledge of safeguarding procedures.

The Assistant Team Managers will report directly to the Team Manager in their specific service and are responsible for supporting the team manager in the day to day operational running of their team. The Assistant Team Manager will:

  • Be responsible for supporting the leadership, supervision and general management of the team as well as the efficient and appropriate escalation of significant incidents
  • Assist the Team Manager in delivering the service outcomes for Children, Young People and their Families.
  • Work with the team manager to focus on the participation of young people, both individually and as a wider group to shape and progress the service they receive.
