Sensory integration service

Massage Therapy offers a specialist service, in schools, by trained massage therapists for children with a wide variety of needs e.g. Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC), Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Physical Disability, Learning Difficulty, Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH), Dyspraxia, Low Self-Esteem, and Anxiety. It is also used to improve fine motor and cross body.

Massage therapy sessions are tailored to each child’s individual needs. Sessions usually start with stacking cup exercises, which helps the child with their spatial awareness, fine motor skills, sequencing and crossing the midline. The session then moves onto a number of activities which help to improve hand-eye co-ordination and bilateral skills.

Hand massage follows, which is a calming technique and reduces stress and anxiety. Hand massage can also support handwriting skills. Finally, there is an opportunity for a back and head massage. Parental and child consent is required and it is carried out through clothing using hands and massage tools.

We also offer training sessions to staff and parents on Story Massage, Hand Massage, Sensory Circuits and Sensory Processing.
